Peotone

Peotone

This home was built for a newly retired couple that wanted the flexibility of having a 2 story but their main living area on the first floor. They chose a plan for a 2 story home that had the master suite on the first floor with extra space on the second floor for when their children & grandchildren come to stay over.

How it started

This client was referred to us by a family member we had previously worked with. They were moving from out of state to be closer to family. They had intended to buy a previously owned home, but could not find anything to fit their needs which made them decide on building custom.

After learning they wanted to build a new home in the Peotone area - We referred them to one of our preferred real estate agents to find a lot, and also our preferred architect to help them design a blueprint for what they wanted to build. Our agent was able to help this client purchase a beautiful 5 acre property in Peotone within their price range, and our architect was able to draw up blueprints for a house that had all the features they were seeking.

The Process:

Once we had these starting tasks taken care of, we were able to break ground & start construction. We loved having the opportunity to work with this client and make their dreams come true. Some of the unique features that have been incorporated into this project include various barn doors throughout, custom floors, and a custom-made Dutch door on the laundry room to check on pets.

Some of this customer’s favorite finishing touches came to inspiration during the construction process. In the family room, we added floating shelves with an accent color on each side of the fireplace. This turned out to complement the custom-stained white oak floors perfectly. Some of the finishing touches added in the kitchen were a custom hood over the cooktop, pull-out drawers, a custom spice rack, and a glass pantry door.

The project overall took approximately 6 months to complete.  One of the biggest issues we ran into on this project was getting materials promptly with supply chain issues.   We were able to resolve this by working patiently and diligently with our suppliers.  One of the things we modified for this customer that wasn’t on the blueprint was adding extra stonework to the front of the house.

The Result

At the end of this project, our customer was presented with their brand new modern day farmhouse. They couldn’t be happier with the end result. It was a pleasure to work with this family. We were able to make their dreams come true by developing a plan in our first meeting, and working with the client every step of the way to make it a reality. Although this sounds easy, there are a lot of emotions & moving parts when constructing a new home. From our connections in real estate, architecture, engineering, and all of our preferred contractors we were able to successfully complete this project on time and in budget! Overall, the homeowners LOVE their new home and continue to love living in their new space.

What our client had to say:

Pat (Owner)

“My husband and I contracted with Mike Willis to build our new home. We were new to the area and he came highly recommended to us after completing a basement remodel in my son’s home.

Mike was very patient through the land purchase, architect design work, bank approval and permitting. Once we were able to finalize all of the above, Mike was ready to start our project immediately. Especially during this pandemic, Mike was hugely instrumental in keeping things moving along on a timely manner. It wasn’t always easy to be patient waiting for things beyond his/our control, but Mike was willing to adapt to the situation. He has great subcontractors to work with as well. We had some different requirements and wishes and he made them all happen. We couldn’t be any happier with all the work he did.

Mike was very responsive to all of our questions or concerns and always responded to us very quickly. If I was questioning something, he would always say “I want you to be happy.” We couldn’t ask for anything more.

The exterior is not quite complete due to the time of year and weather; that should be completed in the spring.

We now have a beautiful home to enjoy and it is thanks to Mike!”
